Campaign teams hint at how Dudley, Kitzhaber would run state
Saturday, August 28, 2010, 7:50 Jeff Mapes, The Oregonian
Republican Chris Dudley has surrounded himself with some of his party's top strategists - including the manager of John McCain's presidential race -- and has kept on a campaign path for Oregon governor that is as disciplined as one of the pro basketball teams on which he played.
Meanwhile, Democrat John Kitzhaber's run has more closely resembled a rolling policy seminar than a campaign. Recently, the former governor assembled a team of experienced Oregon Democratic political operatives who are scrambling to turn back perhaps the toughest challenge they've faced in their party's 24-year control of the governorship. SALEM – Oregon's budget problems continued to worsen today as the state economist projected
an "anemic" recovery and another $373 million drop in state revenue.
At the same time, however, corporations that pay Oregon taxes could see rebates of more than
$40 million under Oregon's "kicker" law because their profits are outpacing expectations, a
situation one lawmaker termed "absurd." Read More....

...the 2010 race for governor may finally give Oregon Republicans reason to cheer.
The formula for statewide Republican victory in Oregon is simple. Roughly 30 of the state’s 36 counties are sparsely populated and usually vote Republican. Dudley should carry them easily. He’ll also have to take a significant share of the vote in the state’s populous liberal enclaves, like Lane County, home of Eugene, and Multnomah County, home of Portland. If Dudley can capture 35 or 40 percent of the vote in these areas, he should be the next governor. The most recent statewide poll has him leading Kitzhaber 47 percent to 40 percent.
Dudley Do-Right may be set to defy Oregon’s image as just another Left Coast State. Read More....

Former Democratic Gov. John Kitzhaber and Republican Chris Dudley, who played in the NBA for 16 years including two with the Portland Trail Blazers, are locked in a close contest for Oregon governor, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll conducted June 17.
Dudley is leading Kitzhaber 47 percent to 45 percent with 4 percent preferring some other candidate and 4 percent undecided. The margin of error is 4.5 points. In late May, they were a point apart. Read More....

Rasmussen -Monday, June 21, 2010 The race to be Oregon’s next governor is still anyone’s game at this point, with Republican Chris Dudley and Democrat John Kitzhaber virtually tied again this month.
A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state finds Dudley earning 47% of the vote to Kitzhaber’s 45%. Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and another four percent (4%) are undecided.
In February, however, Kitzhaber led Dudley 42% to 36%. But in the final survey before their respective party primaries in May, Dudley and Kitzhaber were tied at 41% apiece. Just after the May 18 primary, support for both candidates increased, but the race remained a tie. Read More....
